MPASS — Manitoba Physical Activity Safety in Schools

MPASS is the Manitoba Physical Activity Safety in Schools resource — a comprehensive safety and risk-management tool developed for the Manitoba School Boards Association that provides recommended provincial guidelines and best practices for physical education, outdoor education, field trips, and interscholastic sports. We built a custom WordPress platform that turns a large body of safety documentation into a fast, filterable, and continually evolving resource for educators across the province.

Key Features Implemented:

• Custom Searchable Activity Database: We developed a custom-built activity search powered by tailored taxonomies — filtering by grade level (K-3, K-8, 9-12, and more) and activity type (curricular, intramural, interschool, outdoor education, and risk level) — so teachers can instantly surface the right activity safety plan.
• Categorized Resource Library: A parallel resource search organizes dozens of documents across 20+ categories, including concussion protocols, emergency management, first aid, risk management, and templates, checklists & forms — making critical safety information easy to locate.
• “Ask MPASS” & “Modify Guidelines” Feedback Tools: Custom intake workflows let educators ask clarifying questions about existing safety plans or submit suggestions to add or revise activities, feeding directly into the resource’s revision and update process.
• Living Document Management: The site is structured so guidelines, revision summaries, and updates can be maintained over time, keeping a province-wide standard current as best practices evolve.
• Stakeholder & Partner Integration: Clear acknowledgement of partners — the Manitoba School Boards Association, PHE Manitoba, Manitoba School Insurance Program, and the Province of Manitoba — reinforces the resource’s authority and governance.
• Accessible, Education-Sector Design: A clean, intuitive interface ensures teachers, coaches, and administrators can find what they need quickly across all devices.
